The monthly payment on a $50,000 home equity loan depends on the interest rate and repayment term. For illustration, a 10-year fixed loan at 8% has principal-and-interest payments of about $607 per month; at 9%, about $633. A longer term lowers the monthly payment but increases total interest. Closing costs, fees, taxes, and insurance may also affect your overall housing budget.
